Growth begins where perfection ends
Hotel de Baak Seaside offers space for unique exhibitions by contemporary artists. Together with the artist, we define a shared theme that connects the artworks, our location, and the learning processes that take place here. This summer, artist Ben Roelofs presents his exhibition “Growth begins where perfection ends.”
Below, the artist in his own words:
"In my work, geometric shapes such as the circle and the square take centre stage – forms that traditionally symbolise order, unity and structure. But I consciously choose to disrupt these shapes; as a result, they are incomplete. This creates a tension between perfection and imperfection. It is a visual interpretation of embracing imperfection.
For me, this process also symbolises personal development: letting go of the pursuit of perfection and learning to embrace one’s own flaws. By not hiding these imperfections, but rather recognising them and approaching them from a different perspective, new insights arise. In this way, imperfection becomes not a limitation, but a source of strength for change, growth and self-awareness.
My work invites you to let go of structure, reconsider control, and make space for the unknown. Because only when perfection gives way to vulnerability can real transformation begin.
