Hotel de Baak Seaside provides space for showcasing special exhibitions of contemporary artists. Together with the artist, we arrive at a common theme that connects the artworks, our location, and the learning processes that take place here. At the moment, we have the exhibition ‘Inner Wilderness’ by artist Bob Mollema on display.
Bob Mollema is known for his powerful use of color and mysterious, symbolic images. Behind each artwork lies an intuitive creative process. He often begins without a fixed plan and allows the work to develop along the way. Driven by feeling and spontaneity, he experiments with various materials and techniques, such as oil pastel and chalk on linen, oil paint on cotton, colored pencil or graphite on paper, and screen printing. By combining different structures and surfaces, a versatile and characterful style emerges.
“In my work, I try to be guided by mythological motifs to get closer to my inner wilderness. I have the idea that if I let that wilderness speak, I look at the world with honest and non-conformist eyes. A personal struggle against the smoothing uniformity that devours the texture and beauty of difference. In my work, I am not guided by an intended end result, but I try to stay as close as possible to my natural signature so that the aesthetics are pure, honest, naive, and unscathed.”
